Our Impact

In Hong Kong, over 250,000 children live below the poverty line and more than 7% of primary school students have special educational needs (SEN)*. Expressive arts can be powerful tool to help improve the lives of these children and their educators.

Since 2013, the Make It Better (MIB) Programme has impacted the lives of thousands of children in Hong Kong. During 2017-2021, the programme was able to reach more beneficiaries than ever before through The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust funded ‘Jockey Club Expressive Arts Programme for Children’. The programme was organised in collaboration with the Centre on Behavioral Health, The University of Hong Kong. After participation in the programme:

Children, especially those with SEN, reported a higher social competency score.
Parents observed substantial reductions in emotional symptoms, hyperactivity/inattention problems, peer problems, and overall difficulties of their children.Children were observed to be more expressive and interactive, with improved problem-solving abilities and autonomy.
Educators who completed the training aspect of the programme (Train-the-Trainer) reported significant increases in general self-efficacy, teacher self-efficacy, and perceived relationship with students.

Behind The Scenes

We are extremely grateful to Asian Charity Services and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for helping us fund this video project. Through their JC Engage programme, we were able to work with a talented production house, We Love Production, to bring our ideas to life.
