“She told me to stretch the skin of the eyelid to make it easy to finish the flick – and then to flick it up towards the eyebrow,” says Lila Grace Moss of the beauty advice her supermodel mother, Kate Moss, bestowed upon her, in an exclusive conversation with Vogue. “I make sure to have a steady hand and a zoomed-in mirror because it’s more precise... when you have one further away it’s difficult to get liner close to the lash line.” It’s advice that she can put to good use as the face of Marc Jacobs Beauty’s new Highliner Liquid-Gel Eyeliners, which be available exclusively in Harvey Nichols from October 8.

Feline flicks can be tricky to get right, and there are all sorts of facets to consider: eye shape, symmetry and staying power included. The new hybrid liquid-gel eyeliners, £24, make things easier; a short handle and thin, paintbrush-style tip allows for easy precision; a waterproof formula means no budging; and the liquid-gel formula means it glides on, without any line-jerking fuss. “The new liquid liner is inspired by the original Highliner Gel Eye Crayon," says Nikkie de Jager (otherwise known as @NikkieTutorials on Instagram). "It lasts all day and never flakes, which is everything I need in a liner.”

Dubbed a ‘highlighter for your eyes’ by the brand, it comes in an array of metallic finishes which lend a little twinkle to a look, and can be layered on top of eyeshadow or simply worn alone. From Blitzed Coin (copper) and Glamaroon (cranberry) to Blacquer (a classic black), there’s a Studio 54-esque hue for everyone – and just in time for party season.

“I love the new liner because the applicator makes it so easy to create loads of different looks, as well as a defined line,” says Moss. “You can really play around with the colours as well.” She’ll be wearing hers this autumn with dewy skin, mascara and natural, wavy hair: “I don’t really like blow drying or anything,” she says.

Moss worked with a stellar team on the campaign, including photographer Zoey Grossman as well as de Jager, and says photoshoots are a great place to learn: “I like being on set because you can look at all the make-up and talk about it with people who actually know how to use it – and what you can do with it.”
